Göcek is 30 km from Fethiye on
the Fethiye-Mugla highway. Having an appearance of a
small charming fishing town, Lately Göcek has become
a major point of attraction for international
yachters and nature lovers. Göcek bays are one of
the rare places that can be used throughout the year
by state of the art yachts as well as small
rowing-boats. Besides being a good visual point with
its breeze, sea and air temperature Göcek is also
the world’s best region for the first sail into the
sea. Göcek is 20 km away from Dalaman Airport. The
marina, built a few years ago, is continuing to grow
and become more and more popular. For instance, when
you take an aeroplane from Istanbul, Ankara or
abroad, within a few hours you can embrace yourself
in the turquoise waters of Göcek where the blue of
the sea meets the green of the forests. There are
many islands in the Fethiye bay. These are the Göcek
Islands of, Tersane Island, Domuz Island, Yassica
Island, Zeytinada, Kizilada, Tavsan Island and
Katrancik Island. In addition to these islands,
there are also many bays such as the Çiftlik Bay,
Doruklu, Osmanaga Bay, Günlüklü Bay, Boynuz Bükü,
Bedri Rahmi, Sirali, Sarsala, Manastir and Göbün
Bay. The yacht season begins in early April when the
docks are tranquil and the hills are covered with
spring flowers. Around the middle of May, the sea
starts to get warmer and the days longer. The
evenings of June are sweet and the sea is warm. In
July and August the weather is hot yet the dominant
main winds bring a welcome breeze and relaxation,
the evenings are restful. September is a very
popular month and the weather conditions resemble
June. The sea is still warm in November. The
temperature is still warm despite the occasional
rains. November’s weather is volatile but the
yachting experience is pleasurable until December.
The main wind direction is north-west but it has a
tendency to blow from the west among the shore in
the bays. It starts in the late hours of the morning
and its strength reaches 4 or 5 in the afternoon. It
rests at night for a peaceful evening. July and
August has the strongest winds but even in these
months the wind is calm in the morning for those who
prefer a comfortable sale.
